[discussion] VISUALIVE - next is the last?

The issue of PATi-PATi with that gorgeous cover hit the shelves yesterday, and alongside the beautiful photos and double sided poster is an interview with GACKT (plus one with GACKT, Jon and Takumi promoting the YFCz album).

GACKT is asked about VISUALIVES, and specifically when the next one is likely to be.

This is his answer -

"Including MOON SAGA, everything I do in my name (solo) is a movement toward the next VISUALIVE. To be honest, I have a feeling that the next one will be my last VISUALIVE, so that's all the more reason why I want to take my time in creating it."

Source - PATi-PATi 2012.03

(Huge thanks to [info]excused_early for double checking my understanding on that!)

What are your thoughts on this?

Why do you think he believes the next VISUALIVE will be his last?

Does this make you more determined to go to Japan for a VISUALIVE? Started saving already?

(I feel that it needs to be pointed out that GACKT has a history of changing his mind on these kind of things. If he was true to his word, he would have retired at least 15 times before 2010 yet he's still going strong.)

If he's saying what I think he's saying... "drama queen G is back !"
His "intuition" on this kind of stuff has failed so many times before, I can't take it seriously.

I already know I'll go to Japan for it, but it's just because I want to see the show, not because "omg it could be his last tour".

I was planning a trip to Japan for the next VISUALIVE anyway, I'll just consider this as an extra reason not to chicken out (no pun intended) and leave the trip for "some other time"...

The LAST visuallive? WHY?! You're not thinking of retiring, are you? Stop scaring us like this D:

To be honest, I have a feeling that the next one will be my last VISUALIVE

I had been wondering when he was going to start this again XD; I think he probably says that stuff just so he feels he can stop without it being as much of a shock or a disappointment. Considering not only should he be retired, but dead several times over, by his own premonitions, I won't take this seriously until he's officially done.

Very interesting, though *o* I wonder what he has in the works!

A Gackt fan listening to Type O! WHOOOOOOO! I miss Pete Steele.

To answer the question: He's been saying that for so long but I think if I can I'm going to try to get to this live. To be honest I'm not 100% in love with YFC and I'd rather just hear Gackt alone.

I think I spent most of my late teens listening to Type O, and they were doing twin vocals before it was cool (kinda) hahahahaha.

Several ideas:
-Maybe these VISUALIVEs are obscenely expensive and Avex doesn't want to pay for that. (The "I'm spinning this because the company says so"/cynical version).
-They're rough on him, and like he keeps saying, he'll go 1000% till his body gives out. RRII was 4 hours long, YFC is much shorter.
-Maybe his Well of Creativity is drying up :\. Or the earthquake last year changed some things for him.
-Or, as you pointed out, maybe he is giving that "time to re-evaluate things" hint again. Or Cher's billionth "farewell" tour XD

Does this make you more determined to go to Japan for a VISUALIVE? Started saving already?
*resigned to the fact that I'll probably never see him in concert, or even go to Japan...*

IDK.He wanted to retire so many times, but he can't - he loves his job too much :D But he promised coming again to Europe...and he said he want now in solo... maybe he's going to take the whole visualive thing to all around the world? If it will be the last, it have to be the biggest live! I hope it will be worldwide, though it would be difficult. I believe in him :D

Reminds me of This ( Fool's Mate 05.2010 )

I'm not happy with this statement but..whatever he mean, I NEED to get my ass to see it. Seriously.

Oh right. Now that you mention it, I recall [info]excused_early's post on it here.

Back then, before the earthquake happened, he thought the next Visualive would be in 2013, didn't he.

February 10 2012, 14:20:49 UTC 3 months ago

I have to say, everyone here is a lot calmer than some of the Japanese fans I saw talking about this on Twitter yesterday. Maybe we view things a bit more cynically, or maybe it's because VISUALIVES are so out of reach for the vast majority of foreign fans that as long as he isn't talking full retirement, we don't mind as much.

The amount of pre-production work that goes into something like RRII is insane. Just watch the DIABOLOS documentary and see how many hours GACKT and the staff put into it. It must be both physically and mentally exhausting. The tours tend to be longer too, IIRC, RRII was 60 shows long. You can add up all of the dates in both the 2010 and 2011 YFCz tours (Japan and Europe) and they probably won't hit 60. I can completely understand where he's coming from and why he's thinking this.

I can also see him completely changing his mind, because as ドS as he is to everybody else, he's most ドS to himself.

In love with your comment. Even if he stops doing VISUALIVEs (for the glorious reasons you mentioned above), he'll still do concerts and make music.

It's a bit sad (if he really isn't changing his mind this time, LOL), but I don't see that big a deal.

I know for FACT that he is not going to be doing his last. Why? BECAUSE I HAVEN'T BEEN TO ONE YET.
I need to get a job and get myself over there FAST. Don't go scaring me like that G.

If it'd be his last, it could be for many reasons. They're terribly exhausting, long, on him and his staff. It requires a LOT of preparation and perfection. And it requires the fans to do a little homework before going, because you need to understand what is going on.
It could also very well be a financial matter, because these tours are always so long, and he always wants it bigger, and better while the world is getting more expensive, it might not be as doable anymore.
Or he just wants to close the chapters of MOON like he did with R&R, and turn into a whole different road, but if he does, I'd certainly miss his world, what he creates, and what made me get hooked on him, as an artist.

Whatever he's planning, I'm looking forward to it, and last or not, if it's VISUALIVE, I wasn't planning on skipping it. :>

Forgot to add; won't believe what he says 100% unless he actually does it. /nods

If the next one really will be his last one, I'd never live with myself if I didn't go. ^^ I suppose should really start looking for a part time job now…
But hopefully, he'll make it a world tour as well. ^^

February 10 2012, 15:47:01 UTC 3 months ago

I'm skeptical about this being the last, bit if it is I understand his reasons completely. Expensive, long... just so much to do.

I don't know if I'd go see it because Japan's on the other side of the world. It would really have to depend on WHEN it is. If I'm in Japan at the time, then heck yeah I will do everything I can to go see Gackt live

Before you read my comment, I need to warn you, lol. I just wrote down what came to mind and haven't read any of the other comments, yet. Oh, and. Thanks for the post, Kellie ♥

I hate the thought. I hate how I react to it. I think: "Nice marketing move, aniki." But that is not the part that I don't like. (In fact, I sincerely wish it was just that.) It's how my gut reacts to it, telling me that he is dead serious. Again, if I may add.

You should have seen me in the shower just now, lol, I was silently throwing a tantrum in there, stomping feet and all. Am I ridiculing my self right now? Not that I really care. I thought my reaction wouldn't get ridiculous to the extent where I'd start crying over this. However, as I type this, tears have welled up, although, not fallen, yet. I just need a moment to sort my thoughts, because it's a huge MESS up there in my head.

Well, I know how to deal with this topic, though.

He just said that it might be his last VISUALIVE. He didn't say that he will stop doing concerts, creating music or being involved anymore. Last year, he promised to support SYH for the next 10 years with YFC, iirc. On stage of the last VISUALIVE tour - the first - he made sure we promise to him to come back in 10, 20, 30 years to rock out with him. He won't just disappear, his activities spans many fields. Who knows, he might become a producer or will actively do something to promote and support 'VISUALIVES' from other, younger artists… he might build a real DEARS village, lol. Perhaps he's going to get married LOL, or just wants to start living a private life. Idk, and all of that is fine.

Yeah, I can deal with it, even though it does make me feel a little uncomfortable - it is not exactly new.
Here, he said this in 2007, (you know, the year that every GACKT fan who watched The Sixth Day & The Seventh Night feared - me included, lol)

The source is still intact even. Unfortunately, it doesn't say from when the interview is, but I know because it prompted me to write a blog entry on the matter in December 2007, less than two weeks before New Year. Here is a translation of the whole interview about GUNDAM!. The translation for the part that I quoted is:
“Basically, for the next year I will be addicted to music. I think that there will be great works released. For me, the year 2010 has become a sort of stopping point[2]. Before I reach that, I will move forwards. I like to sing and I really want to continue making things that will give a push to everyone’s backs, but I do not have the confidence to continue doing what I have always done until I die. Even now I’m barely able to do it (laugh). I can continue with this style for another 3, 4 years; that’s why it’s 2010. After that, if I feel that I can do it, I will. If I feel that I can’t, I will get down from the stage. For now, I will continue moving forwards.”

Somehow.. I feel angry. The good kind. The kind of anger that pushes you forward, makes you want to get moving - it's what I define as "Kiai".

My only reaction to this is he might be considering stepping away from the VISUALIVES too focus more on YFC he has said more than once that for the next ten years YFC will be pushing to help Japan over come the tragedy of the earthquake/tsunami.

I think if anything....it's the insane amount of prep and maintanence and length for each visuallive show.....
and know that G is really an ultra perfectionist, it's really hard for his body i'd guess.

given the time it takes to design a visuallive, and the next one coming in ~2013, if there was even to be one after that, it would be probably ~2015 or 2016....which means G would also be ~44...

I'm inclined to say I don't believe him but I'm not sure how big the part of me that doesn't WANT to believe it is.

I was dreading it though.. I can only hope it won't be his last. His other "activities" simply don't mean as much to me as his visualives do.

THIS THIS THIS. None of the feelings I experienced during YFC compared to what I had during R&RII. But maybe we're biased because Visualive was part of our first "Gackt live" experience, haha.

Hmm. Well, it sure feels odd, but yes, I can say that I am quite fine with this. It must be that this is not the first time he says something like this. I am looking forward trying to see the next visualive in the future, no matter if it's the last or not. As we all know, he works 100% and VISUALIVEs has a huge amout of pre-production work, long tour and concerts hours with all the traveling around the country and all the promotion, and many things that I don't even know about - it's physically and mentally exhausting. I can't even think of how much it takes from him and the others working on it...

He must have many other plans to do with his career in the future (certainly in his private life, too), with SYH or maybe even with his acting career. Who knows. He is very versatile entertainer and artist that his activities are extensive. Even if he would go on hiatus or something, he sure deserves it. He has given us so much.

I think the last VISUALIVE can mean that he will be bringing his concerts to the next level, or that it's just an end of an other era in his career, not nescessary a retirement hint...
